Celebrating Pierre Léonard’s Service

Federation
International

Today, we want to take a moment to honour and thank Pierre Léonard, who has stepped down as Chair of the Board of Directors of Humanity & Inclusion Canada (HI Canada) after 12 years of dedicated service.

Over the past 12 years, Pierre’s leadership, commitment and passion have helped shape the HI Canada we know today. His contributions have made a lasting impact on our organization and the people we work alongside around the world.

During our last Annual General Assembly, Pierre took a moment to reflect on his 12 years with HI Canada and share a few words about his experience with the organization. Here’s what he had to say:

" When I think of HI, I think of the thousands of people with disabilities and the most vulnerable people around the world, victims of armed conflicts or natural disasters.

When I think of HI, I think of our nearly 5,000 team members in the field who provide assistance to these vulnerable people. I think of Gilles and Nishee.

When I think of HI, I think of our colleagues at the Lyon headquarters who coordinate our work.

When I think of HI, I think of a remarkable organization that I love and believe in.

I also think of an organization that can always improve—an organization that all of us here can help make better.

When I think of HI Canada, I think of the challenges we face in becoming known and recognized for our true value.

I think of everything we need to put forward to be recognized as an essential humanitarian organization across Canada.

I think of the exciting challenge that lies ahead of us.

Things can be difficult, but we learn through adversity—much like a certain hockey club.

Achieving our goals may take longer than expected, but we must persevere with enthusiasm and optimism.

We must persevere by fostering harmony and cohesion within our group, while also being ambitious and determined. That is how we will grow and thrive, both as an organization and as individuals.

I grew a lot during my 12 years on the Board. I have come to better understand the world we live in. I have met and worked with inspiring people, outstanding professionals, and friends for life.

Thank you for all of that."

Pierre’s words are a reflection of what he has brought to HI Canada over the past 12 years: a deep belief in our mission, a commitment to the people we serve, and a genuine desire to make our organization better. He is an example of a leader who doesn’t just believe in change, he helps make it happen.

Thank you, Pierre, for 12 years of leadership, friendship and dedication. Your impact on HI Canada will remain with us for years to come.
